From its opening on March 25, the blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has divided fans and critics. Although this had been a highly anticipated sequel to the exciting Man of Steel, it had a poor 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, because the movie had received so many views, I decided to watch it as well.
Batman v Superman constantly refers back to Man of Steel, where Superman’s battle with General Zod, another Kryptonian, caused major destruction throughout Metropolis. General Zod was trying to take over Earth to rebuild Krypton, which had been destroyed by the planet’s unstable core, but Superman makes the difficult decision to defend his adopted home.
Many civilians in Metropolis believe that although Superman saved their lives, he is extremely dangerous. He is constantly criticized for the damage caused, and feels responsible for the loss of so many lives. Batman, who had watched Superman’s battle against General Zod, also believes that Superman is a threat to the human race. He finds and weaponizes a block of Kryptonite to use against Superman should the need arise. Lex Luthor, a maniac billionaire, wants to see Man (Batman) fight God (Superman) and blackmails Superman into battling Batman by kidnapping his mother. After a spectacular fight, Superman manages to convince Batman into saving his mother. They team up with Wonder Woman to battle Doomsday (created by Lex Luthor to destroy Superman), a monster formed out of General Zod’s mutilated corpse. Superman sacrifices himself to destroy Doomsday and save the world.
Batman v Superman is an exciting, stunning movie, with an incredible performance and special effects. Though it is very dark, this film is extremely realistic concerning the struggles of superheroes with a huge responsibility to protect others. I enjoyed this movie immensely, and would earnestly recommend this film to fans of action movies.
